Without a
doubt, electricity is the one indispensable technological invention of modern
life. It not only keeps all machines operating continually, but also allows
information to transmit quickly. For Taiwanese, it is hard to imagine what life
would be like without electricity in the long term. However, people who live in
remote and underdeveloped regions need to accept this inconvenience in their
daily lives. Not having any electronic communication devices, the news from the
outside world would most certainly be blocked out. Without air-conditioning, their lives in the summer
would also be extremely uncomfortable.
Although a
world without electricity sounds inconvenient, life can be peaceful and quiet. It
is the total opposite to the hustle and bustle of a world with electricity. We can easily access a great variety of
information from the outside, but it conversely might upset the calmness and harmony
of our mind. Our mood may be easily influenced by the overload of information.
However, I believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Although the
world is always noisy and busy in modern life, I am unwilling to live in a
world without electricity. After all, summer without air-conditioning is too
uncomfortable for me to bear!
