uncomfortable feeling of being on my own as my parents had long working
hours. They were too exhausted疲累的 after work to spend time with me, no matter
how much I cherished some conversation with them. To make things worse, I did
not have any siblings兄弟姊妹. I did go to
school, but nobody in my class seemed to be willing to make friends with me,
probably because I was too shy. Over time, I became invisible and ignored, and
I led a solitary孤獨的 existence存在.

where I was mesmerized被迷惑 by both fictitious虛構的 stories and true events. I was no longer bothered by loneliness so long
as I had a book in hands. For this reason, I became a frequent頻繁的 user of the local library, which stocked more books than I could ever
read. Week after week, I took home books that kept me
company使…陪伴我. Without them, I
could hardly have survived. An unexpected benefit of reading was my friendship
with the librarian. In her late fifties五十好幾, she was intrigued被吸引 by this young boy with an exceptional interest in the written word. She
took the initiative主動採取 to give me recommendations on what to read, which I truly appreciated.
